Who we are

In over 20 years of activity CSIL has become an established research centre for the diagnosis and design of sector strategies, the evaluation and elaboration of evaluation methodology for public policy interventions, and is a valuable partner for both the public and private sectors. Every professional in the team has passed a rigorous selection process and is involved in teamwork, sharing of know-how and tasks. The group’s professional background encompasses a wide range of experiences at different levels: on the one hand, senior experts with top level management experience in international organisations and universities, and on the other, junior experts boasting an excellent academic background as well as a minimum of experience with projects.


CSIL roots: the Italian development model of SMEs

CSIL expertise stems from several economic studies and research carried out during the “80s concerning those SMEs manufacturing sectors where Italian model has a proven track record and has attracted much attention at an international level, being now the heart of the new public policies for development in Europe. Starting from the important and thriving Italian SMEs industrial reality of Brianza, north of Milan, during the “80s CSIL witnessed the sprawling and development of SMEs in Veneto region where Italian model of SMEs found the most fertile terrain. Our experts carried out consultancy activities in other Italian regions as well as in several countries around the globe.
International experience proves that a long-term development process entails a healthy and thriving endogenous entrepreneurial network based on SMEs: the Italian development model, leading a backward country to G7 membership in the span of few decades soon after Italy joined the European Common Market, was strongly influenced by SMEs.


CSIL expertise

Since its birth, CSIL has gathered unsurpassed experience with analysis and other consultancy activities for the development and consolidation of industrial districts. Competitiveness analysis, elaboration of cluster development strategies and international market strategies have been the core of CSIL activities. Additionally, our experts exhibit longstanding collaboration experience with the European Commission and other international organisations in the evaluation of public policies and investment projects. They elaborated and perfected evaluation methodology, in particular cost-benefit analysis, on behalf of international institutions and are authors of important guidelines in this field. Finally, our experts keep up to date with evolving regulation for the sustainability of development strategy, increasing their attention to environment and safety issues.
